Cheng Peng Cheong began studying the violin at the age of 8. He studied under Mr. Wang Lan and Mr. Chen Yun, the principal of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, at the Macao Conservatory. He later enrolled in the junior program at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he studied under Professor Michael Ma.
In 2006, Cheong entered the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, studying violin and viola under Mr. Leung Kin Fung. He received a Diploma in Violin Performance in 2008 and an Advanced Diploma in Violin Performance in 2010.
In 2010, Cheong received a scholarship to attend the New England Conservatory in the United States, with support from the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao Foundation, and the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macao. He studied viola with Marcus Thompson, the president of the Boston Chamber Music Society, and received a Bachelor of Music degree with academic honors in 2013.
In 2013, Cheong was awarded the Talent Grant to attend the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the Netherlands, where he studied viola with Professor Nobuko Imai, a world-renowned violist and educator. He received a Master of Music degree in 2015.
Cheong has also performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra member in many places around the world.
